From faster quotes to profitable work
Connect quoting improvements to fulfilled orders, contribution and the full cost of delivery.
Faster quoting creates an opportunity. The commercial result depends on which additional requests become eligible, which customers place orders and whether the business can deliver that work profitably.
A practical business case keeps workload, capacity and cash outcomes visible as different measures. That makes it easier for sales, finance and operations to discuss the same scenario without adding unlike quantities into one impressive total.
Start with the additional work
Identify requests the current process leaves unanswered or answers too late. Check why they were missed. Some may fit the product and delivery model; others may have low relevance, incomplete information or a service requirement the business cannot support.
Use explicit assumptions for eligible requests and conversion. Apply an appropriate contribution measure after incremental delivery costs. Bring the operational owner into the discussion so the scenario reflects the capacity available to fulfil the extra orders.
Give time savings the right meaning
Freed time can support more customer work, more review capacity or a shorter queue. Realized cash savings require an actual change in cost. Record which outcome the business intends to pursue and how it will be measured.
Keep preparation and correction costs distinct. If a reviewer’s time is already included in the workload measure, include it once. When added capacity is used to generate extra contribution, make that relationship visible in the scenario.
Include the operating cost
Count setup, connections, training, review, support and maintenance. Include the handling of failed cases and exceptions. Distinguish one-time implementation work from recurring costs, and compare the same period on both sides of the model.
- Additional eligible and deliverable demand
- Conversion and contribution assumptions
- Preparation, review and correction workload
- Realized cost changes and the use of added capacity
- Full implementation and ongoing operating costs
Use a scenario to identify the assumptions worth testing, then replace them with evidence as the evaluation progresses. The strongest case is one the business owners can reconcile to actual work, rather than a promise based on drafting speed alone.
